As part of our Great Place to Grow Up programme, we want active and engaged young people (YP) to share their ideas, insights and skills that have grown up in Letchworth and know it best to join our Youth Collective.
The Youth Collective is a consulting framework that ensures that youth voice is at the heart of decision making that makes Letchworth a better place to grow up. The collective is made up of twelve 16-25 yr old individuals that live, study or work in Letchworth. Each event allows each YP to share their experiences, generate ideas and collaborate on projects and events, with the support with local professionals & community members.
Places are still available to join the collective. If you would like to join the Collective, please contact us on: response@letchworth.com
What's New?

Open call — artists aged 16+
We want to create a unique opportunity for local emerging artists and skaters in Letchworth to connect and create together. And what better way to do that than a live art session during the Skate Jam at Norton Common Skate park, happening on Saturday 6 June 2026, 1:00–4:00 PM, as part of the wider Letchworth Festival.
We are looking for up to five emerging artists aged 16 or over to paint custom designs on skateboards and garments live on the day, giving skaters the chance to express their identity through custom-made artwork.
What’s in it for you
Paint live in front of the crowd: Come charged and energised, ready to paint on the spot and connect with the local community. It doesn’t have to be complicated, bring a style that’s uniquely yours and can come to life in less than 30 minutes.
Give old skateboards a fresh new life: Skaters will pick the style they want their board customised in, and it’s your chance to make that happen.
Make money from your art: Every selected artist receives a flat fee of £100 for the three-hour event. On top of that, you can earn more on the day by taking commissions directly from skaters, £10 for a simple design (up to 15 minutes) or £20 for a detailed piece (up to 30 minutes). If your total earnings exceed £100, half of the surplus will be donated to charity.
Get exposure at a local festival: We would love more people to know about your creative work and abilities, come and join us and let your art speak for itself.
Spray cans are provided on the day: You are also welcome to bring your own tools and materials if you have a specific style or preferred setup.
Who we’re looking for
- You should be aged 16 or over and comfortable creating art on hard surfaces such as skateboard decks and garments.
- You don’t need to work in a specific style, but experience in graffiti, street art, illustration, or hand lettering is a strong fit.
- You’ll be working outdoors, live, in front of a public audience, so confidence in that environment matters.
- You’ll also need to be able to offer one or two sample design options, simple and/or detailed, that reflect your style.
- This is a chance for emerging artists, so we are not looking for a long experience in the field. Do apply if you think you have the skills and the passion!
How to apply
Applications must be submitted by Thursday 28 May 2026. Download the application form and fill it in with your details, including a link to samples of your work (an Instagram profile, Google Drive folder, or portfolio link all work), and answers to a few short questions about your experience and interest. Shortlisting will be carried out over the last weekend of May. Successful applicants will hear back on Monday 1 June. Selected artists will be invited to a short online briefing on Wednesday 3 June, 5:00–7:00 PM, to go over event logistics and confirm any additional resources needed.
