I have done something for nature
Tell us something you've done to encourage nature in Letchworth Garden City.
Please note that the RSPB has changed its advice on feeding birds. This is to prevent the spread of disease that is harming some of our favourite garden birds (this is not a risk to human health). For more advice and a helpful video please see the RSPB information page.
What others have seen and done for nature
“I have maintained a bird bath at Woolgrove Allotment. I used a stack of three old car tyres with a very large plant saucer on top. We put a few rocks in and some gravel and keep it topped up with rainwater.”
“In the summer of 2019, flights of bats were common by Pix Brook Woods. You could see five or six around the trees. We captured them on video once. Sadly, in the last few years, we’ve only seen one bat at that time of day – one solitary bat, just once.”
“Yesterday in my garden, I witnessed a sparrowhawk attacking a crowd of blue tits, unsuccessfully. It was then seen off by a couple of magpies bombing it!”
“I found a massive Horse Chestnut in a field margin behind Bickerdikes Garden Centre”
“I saw a Scarlet Tiger Moth caterpillar munching on heuchera and then later the moth itself.”
