The Garden City Greenway is a 13.6 mile (21.8km) route around Letchworth suitable for walkers, runners, cyclists and more to enjoy. The route also covers a number of local wildlife and nature spots for people to enjoy while on the route.
We maintain the Garden City Greenway. Our main actions on the Greenway are: Cutting and pruning of trees, hedges and coppices around the Greenway; planting and renewing of hedges and trees; maintaining the Greenway route; and maintaining the benches, furniture and signage around the Greenway.

With the Greenway being busy, remember to follow the Greenway Code so everyone can enjoy it. Whether you are a cyclist, dog owner or jogger, please think of others.

Countryside Code
We encourage all Greenway users to follow the Countryside Code.
Respect
The Greenway is a multi-user trail, so it’s important to respect other users. It also passes through a landscape where people are working and living and deserve minimal disturbance.
The Greenway is a beautiful route for cyclists, but requires a leisurely pace where cyclists give way to walkers and wheelchair users and look out for dogs. Please take special care on blind corners and downhill sections.
Protect
Please help to protect the environment by placing litter in bins or taking it home. While we love the Greenway being enjoyed by dogs, please clean up waste and dispose of it responsibly in a bin.
Our nature is special, please enjoy looking and taking photos. Feel free to let children pick up leaves and sticks from the ground, but please do not damage the trees and shrubs and leave the flowers to make seeds.
Enjoy
It’s always wise to plan your outing, taking into account the route and weather. We hope that everyone will enjoy their visits to the Greenway. Remember, a smile and a greeting to other users may just make their visit more enjoyable!

Staying Safe on the Greenway
While the Greenway is a well-used path, we understand that some people do not want to use it alone. Explore these links to find others to walk with.
It is advisable to take a charged mobile phone with you and to know your location along the route. You can use the numbered way markers to help. The What3Words App is also a handy way to share your location with family and friends, and in the event of an emergency.
