The health of our planet and all living things is dependent on a complex and diverse web of nature. Many people feel that nature should be protected simply for its intrinsic value, yet in doing this, there is so much more that can be gained.
The nature that surrounds us offers many environmental services, from ensuring our food supply, improving air quality, protecting us from floods and regulating extremes in temperature.
Scientific studies now clearly show that nature can aid human health and wellbeing. Getting up close and experiencing nature through all our senses can result in positive effects on our physical health such as improvements to heart and circulatory function, stronger immune systems and a reduction in the physical effects of stress. Add to this the many benefits to our mental wellbeing, such as feeling calm, more restful, or focused and able to take on the demands of modern life.
Sadly, nature in the UK is in decline and has been for many years. Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation would like to join with others in halting the decline and contributing to nature's restoration for the benefit of the planet and all who make it their home.
We’re encouraging everyone in Letchworth and beyond to go outside and get involved with nature. From little things you can do to help wildlife, to local nature groups and more, Living Well With Nature is your one-stop guide to getting involved with nature in Letchworth Garden City.
