Guided archaeology walk through Hillbrow Grassland

Letchworth Festival

This is a gentle walk to look and ‘Ickleford tumulus’ and discover some of our local archaeology.

The ‘Ickleford tumulus’ is a prehistoric burial mound that forms part of a much wider landscape. The walk will look at its setting in relation to nearby destroyed mounds, Wilbury Hill and sites on the edge of Hitchin. We will find out when and why it was built, how it relates to discoveries at Wilbury Hill and beneath Fearnhill School, and why it remains important.

Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews is a former archaeologist who grew up in Letchworth Garden City and has spent much of his career working in the area.

This is a ticketed event. Tickets are free, and any donations will be used to support our community connection to nature work.
