Family Forest School

Join our family-friendly Forest School, designed for parents and children under 12. Enjoy a fun-filled outdoor adventure where kids can explore nature, a campfire, climb trees, and learn bushcraft skills, all while making lasting memories. Held at the wonderful Norton Common Local Nature Reserve in Letchworth, it’s the perfect way to connect with nature and each other.
Additional Information: Outdoor session- runs in all weathers- please wear appropriate clothing.
Adult Woodcraft for Wellbeing programme

Fully funded places are available for those who truly need them (e.g., if you rely solely on income support, are on a very low income, or receive only a state pension).
Reconnect with nature and nurture your wellbeing in these creative, adults-only (18+) woodland sessions. Combining woodcraft with mindfulness, we’ll explore activities like whittling, simple wood carving (including spoon carving), and crafting nature-inspired decorations. These workshops are designed to improve mental health by offering a calming space to relax, focus, and connect with others. Enjoy the warmth of a fire, hot drinks, and snacks while learning new skills and creating something special to take home. No prior experience needed – just bring yourself and a willingness to unwind!


Therapeutic Gardening
Run by: Green Care at Norton CIC
When and where: 3 sessions per week: Tuesday and Thursday at Standalone Farm, and Friday mornings at The Crescent site, Letchworth
Cost: Free
Our award-winning project aims to use horticulture to support and bring about positive change in the lives of adults living with loneliness, unemployment or who are socially excluded through mental illness, learning differences or disabilities. Based on three sites across Letchworth Garden City, participants work alongside volunteers to grow food and flowers. Participants benefit from having a safe and secure place to make friends, learn and develop skills, and enjoy the mental and physical health benefits of gardening outdoors.
Social and Therapeutic Horticulture Sessions
Run by: Growing People
When: Sessions take place on Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon.
Location: The Sadie Centre, Hitchin Road, Letchworth SG6 3NA
Cost: £30 per 3 hour session.
Growing People offers social and therapeutic horticulture for adults living in Hertfordshire. Our qualified team support people living with a wide range of mental health needs – from mild to more complex conditions. Through gardening, we help individuals reduce stress, build confidence, feel more connected, and learn new skills in a friendly and supportive outdoor setting.
