As part of the Uncovering Letchworth project, we carried out a comprehensive review of the Garden City Collection’s archives to better understand what stories are currently represented—and where important gaps exist.
Led by our Collections Officers, this formal audit was designed to move beyond anecdotal knowledge and provide a clear, evidence-based picture of the collection. The team assessed how well our holdings reflect the diversity of Letchworth Garden City’s communities, identifying areas where voices and experiences are underrepresented.
To support this work, we collaborated with the Heritage Foundation’s Research and Evaluation Manager to analyse local demographic data. This provided a benchmark for comparing our collections against the town’s population and helped highlight priorities for future collecting and engagement.
